The deputy principal of a primary school in Knysna has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl on the school property.
Police spokesperson, captain Malcolm Pojie, says the 51-year-old man was allegedly caught red-handed by the school principal on Monday.
He was arrested on Wednesday and will appear in court on Friday.
Pojie says the alleged sexual assault took place in an office where the girl and another learner had been called to help the deputy principal.
Information available reveals that the incident happened during school hours on Monday, 19 August 2013 in one of the offices. It is alleged that the victim and another learner were called to assist the suspect who is a vice-principal at the school with the dissemination of letters to the parents. When the other learner left, the suspect closed the doors and allegedly grabbed and whilst restraining her, undressed her pants and fiddled with her private parts.
The principal of the school caught him red-handed and disclosed the information to the victim's mom who laid a charge of sexual assault last night. The investigation officer from the George FCS commenced immediately with the preliminary investigation which led to the arrest of the 51-year-old suspect shortly thereafter.
The suspect who is detained at the Knysna police holding cells had been charged with Sexual Assault. The investigation officer will oppose bail at his first appearance.
