The Deputy Minister of Police, Maggie Sotyu begins her visit to Port Elizabeth's northern areas at the Chatty Community Centre in Bethelsdorp.
She will meet with community members and relevant stakeholders to address violent crimes, drug abuse and gangsterism in the area.
This week has also been declared Elderly Week, and the Deputy minister will place special focus during her visit on supporting the metro's elderly and highlighting the challenges they are facing regarding their safety and welfare.
She will be accompanied by Safety and Liaison MEC, Helen Sauls-August, the MEC for Social Development, Pemmy Majodina and Provincial Police Commissioner, Celiwe Binta.
Executive Mayor Benson Fihla, the Mayoral Committee and councillors will form part of the visit and engagements over the next few days.
