Social Development MEC Nancy Sihlwayi, officially launched the 16 Days of Activism on no violence against Women and Children at the Bhisho Legislature on Tuesday.
She told ALGOA FM News that this year marks 24 years of this campaign.
Sihlwayi said this year's focus is on education and fighting drug abuse.
She added that more still needs to be done, as there continues to be increasing cases of rape of children and brutal killings of elderly women accused of witchcraft.
"We are doing this in partnership with a religious group,with traditional leaders , civil society and NGO's that are on the space already and most of them being funded by government to make a sustainable healing within those that have been affected.The programme of preventing,its a programme that we do with other sectors and other Departments.Police is involved then the commission and human rights are also involved in the programme" she said.
