Police in Port Elizabeth have opened up an inquest docket after a newborn baby was found dumped at the Arlington Tip in Walmer.
Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says police were summoned to the scene after stray cows were seen hovering around a black plastic bag at the dumpsite.
The body of a naked baby was found inside.
Naidu says it is suspected that the baby might have been dumped there a week ago and therefore the race and gender could not be established at this stage.
