December rains bring green Xmas cheer to EC

Sandy Stock

Nelson Mandela Bay’s main catchment area in the Langkloof received more welcome follow-up rain on Sunday in what is turning out to be a very wet December.

In fact, large parts of the Eastern Cape have profited from regular rainfall this month at a traditionally hot and dry time of the year.

Nelson Mandela Bay’s main supply dams are holding steady at around 22% of total combined capacity as a result.

Five mm was measured at Kareedouw on Sunday and 5.4 mm at Patensie.

Light showers fell in Port Elizabeth with just 1 mm measured at the 3rd avenue dip in Newton Park.

Elsewhere, Bisho/King William’s Town received 5 mm, East London 14.2 mm, Port Alfred 5.6 mm and Komani/Queenstown 8.8 mm
