Police in Port Alfred have opened an inquest docket after the body of a woman was found inside her vehicle which was submerged in the Kowie River.
Spokesperson Captain Mali Govender says police received a report at 5.30 am on Tuesday about a Corsa Bakkie that went off Wharf Street and into the Kowie River.
She says emergency services responded and found the vehicle submerged approximately 5 meters into the river.
Captain Govender says police are still trying to establish the victim's identity who is estimated to be in her thirties.
It is not yet clear how she ended up in the water and it will form part of the investigation.
