The death toll from the devastating veld fires that ravaged large parts of the Eastern Cape and southern Kwazulu Natal this week, has been put at ten.
That's according to Eastern Cape Rural Development MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane, who has visited some of the affected areas.
He expressed his condolences to the families of the victims who were killed in the fires while they were working.
About 15 farms were hit by the fires, scorching about 15 000 hectares of grazing land.
Qoboshiyane says more than 700 cattle were killed and 6 000 bales of animal feed destroyed.
The Eastern Cape rural development department will provide emergency relief support to farmers affected.
The department will supply animal feed to provide food for animals.
Eskom technicians were working on restoring electricity in the affected areas.
