Port Elizabeth police are searching for at least three suspects who robbed the Boardwalk Casino on Tuesday morning of an undisclosed amount of money.
Boardwalk general manager Brett Hoppe says two suspects, one with a fire-arm, confronted one of their security personnel accompanying a trolley containing an undisclosed amount of cash.
He says the one suspect pointed a fire-arm at the security personnel while the second perpetrator removed the trolley from the escort before fleeing through the smoking section of casino and got into a waiting car.
"We are working with the SAP and reviewing all camera footage. No staff members or customers were injured and the bulk of the guests were unaware of the incident actually taking place. We arranged trauma councelling to the 3 staff members concerned"
Hoppe confirmed that one of the suspects was armed. Asked how the suspect managed to get the gun into the casino where patrons are searched upon entry, Hoppe offered the following response.
"It seems like the security guard who searched him did not detect the concealed weapon. He was searched but somehow he managed to evade the detection of the firearm" he said
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Alwin Labans, says a task team is already on the case.
He thanked the Boardwalk Casino for handing over all footage.
