The Eastern Cape Department of Local Government and Traditional Affairs says its considering terminating the monthly salary of jailed Aba-hembu King, Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo.
King Dalindyebo is currently serving a 12-year jail term at the East London Correctional Centre for kidnapping, assault and arson relating to crimes against his subjects in the 1990s.
But, since his incarceration at the end of last month, he's been in hospital twice after refusing to eat prison food.
The spokesperson for the Department of Local Government in the Eastern Cape, Mamnkeli Ngam, says they're still discussing terminating Dalindyebo's salary with the National government.
"As we speak, he is in jail an not rendering any services. we cannot continue to pay him for not rendering any services to the community or the nation. Any public representative or employee who is incarcerated or just sitting at home, a salary is not paid to that person. We want to finalise this matter as soon as possible, so that he does not get anymore payment" he said
