Dali Mpofu to represent Bizana looters and ask for compensation

Eight people arrested in connection with a looting incident in the Bizana area of the Transkei in early December will be represented by lawyers who worked on the Farlam Commission when they appear in court next week.
A 32 year-old woman and a 19 year-old man were shot dead by the police in Lurholweni Township, Bizana, on the 2nd of December and at least 13 people were injured.
Police were trying to disperse a crowd which had converged on an overturned truck carrying a cargo of rice, sugar and beans.
The Mzamba police have pressed charges against 8 community members for theft and attacking the police.
The first hearings in the Bizana District court take place on Monday.
Marikana Commission of Inquiry Advocates - Dali Mpofu and Matthew Chaskalson - have decided to defend the accused and demand compensation for damages to the victims.
