Dale College Boys' High School in Qonce is mourning the death of one of its students, Lisakhanya Lwana.
The 17-year-old pupil was reported missing last weekend when he did not show up at home.
He was last seen looking for a lift at West Bank in the early hours of Sunday morning following a social gathering with friends.
According to police, Lwana's body was found on the R63 between Qonce and Masingata on Sunday.
Spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli says the victim sustained multiple injuries and they suspect he was a victim of a hit and run.
Fellow students gathered outside the school on Wednesday morning chanting in tribute to Lwana.
In a statement, Dale College says Lwana was a talented sportsman with an infectious personality.
He was also a talented rugby player and his death has left his teammates devastated.
Police have urged anyone with information to come forward.
A case of culpable homicide is under investigation.
