Democratic Alliance candidate Dirk Kotze won Wednesday's municipal by-election in Mossel Bay's ward eight.
The Independent Electoral Commission says Kotze got 64 percent of the votes and the percentage poll was 45 percent.
At Dutywa in the Transkei, Silulami Ndinsa of the ANC easily won the by-election in ward 22 of the Mbhashe municipality, by amassing 83 percent of the votes.
The percentage poll was just on 53 percent.
Further afield, the ANC secured two of three contested wards in the controversial Tlokwe by-elections in Potchefstroom after several months of political drama.
However, An independent candidate managed to get the majority of votes in one of the biggest wards.
