The Democratic Alliance is gloating following by-elections in the Western and Eastern Cape on Wednesday.
The party also won control of the Student Representative Council at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.
However, it's in the Bitou Municipality in Plettenberg Bay where the party's enjoying its triumph the most.
Ntomboxolo Makoba-Somdaka is the spokesperson for the DA Leader, Helen Zille.
"The DA is happy we have won majority in Bitou for the first time, and also in 3 other provinces. By winning ward 7 in Bitou, the ANC no longer has a coalition and now we will be able to govern Bitou without a coalition." says Makoba-Somdaka.
Makoba-Somdaka says the DA also made a strong showing in the rural Eastern Cape, where a number of municipalities are set to be hotly contested in 2016 local government election.
"We also contested in the by-elections in Hofmeyer, in 2011 we won 7.6% and that continued to grow to 31% in 2014. Yesterday [Wednesday] we got 37.6% and we believe our growth will continue in these areas."
Meanwhile, Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University says that investigations are underway over the alleged maladministration of the Student Representative's Council budget of R1.9 million by The South African Students Congress.
The DA students organisation, Daso, released details of the alleged maladministration by the Sasco run- SRC, in the build up to SRC elections.
NMMU spokesperson, Roslyn Baadjies, says the investigation is done by The Department of Student Development and Governance, at the moment the investigation is still ongoing and a final report is not yet available.
