DA welcomes ANC's failed 'frivolous' motion against Kouga Mayor

Kouga Municipality

The Democratic Alliance in the Eastern Cape says it welcomes the decision that a frivolous motion of no confidence against the Mayor of the Kouga Municipality, Horatio Hendricks, tabled by the ANC, has been declared incompetent.

DA-MPL, Vicky Knoetze says the ANC’s motion that was set down to be debated at a special council meeting on Friday, was declared incompetent as it did not adhere to the rules of order of the council.

"A new motion was submitted through the correct channels, and we are confident that it will be defeated on the grounds that is frivolous and not supported by any evidence", she said.

"This motion is nothing more than a desperate attempt to disrupt the progress made by Mayor Hendricks and the DA government. The ANC’s desperation and incompetence is highlighted by the fact that they could not even bring a proper motion to the council", Knoetze said.

She says the ANC must submit any evidence of serious allegations against the mayor to the South African Police Service but they have no evidence and their allegations will not stand up to legal scrutiny, in the same way that the case of nepotism that they opened against the mayor, was thrown out by the National Prosecuting Authority.

The ANC's Chief Whip in Kouga, Vuyani Zana says they are going to do whatever is necessary to remove Hendricks.

"He even had the audacity to swear at Councilors, using the F-word in a council meeting. As an ANC government we said that we are not going to let that happen", he said.

Zana says they are going to launch a complaint against Hendricks.
