The Walmer Park Shopping Centre in Gqeberha has confirmed to Algoa FM News that a shot was indeed fired inside the mall during a robbery.
According to police, there were no customers in the store during Thursday's armed robbery at the iStore.
Marketing Manager for the Centre Deveda Bloem says although a gunshot was fired inside, no staff were injured.
She says the suspects proceeded to steal items on display but the exact value of the stolen goods is unknown at this stage.
Bloem says staff at the iStore remained calm and activated their internal security protocols.
Walmer Park's security control room initiated armed response and SAPS.
Bloem says one security officer was beaten by one of the suspects.
The Centre is fully cooperating with police and provided clear footage of the suspects as well as the description and registration of the vehicle used.
Bloem says all stores are open and the centre is trading as normal.
She said the safety of shoppers, tenants and staff remains a priority.
