A 24-year-old woman is in police custody following a citizen's arrest by a Ward Councillor in Nelson Mandela Bay.
Captain Andre Beetge says two women were walking in Russel Road on Wednesday evening when they were approached by five suspects who demanded their personal belongings.
He says the four men and a woman had knives and a weapon that appeared to be either a gun or a toy gun.
Beetge says the suspects grabbed all their belongings and fled on foot.
Moments later, Ward 5 DA Councillor Terri Stander and her colleague Zanele Tyobeka drove past and saw the two victims looking distressed.
The women informed them that they had just been robbed and pointed towards the fleeing suspects.
Stander gave chase and managed to catch the female suspect.
Captain Beetge says they managed to retrieve the women's handbags with some personal belongings.
The cellphones, however, were taken by the men who are still at large.
The female suspect will appear in court soon on charges of armed robbery and possession of stolen goods.
