The Democratic Alliance in the Eastern Cape has called on the SA Police Service to restore public confidence by spelling out measures to deal with a series of high profile crimes.
DA leader in the Bhisho legislature, Bobby Stevenson, says urban and rural communities have been rocked by brutal murders and several fatal house breakings.
He says last year, three thousand 181 murders were reported in the Eastern Cape, an average of almost nine a day.
"I believe that the SAPS needs to make a public announcement of what extra steps they are going to take to ensure that the public has faith in the ability of the criminal justice system to protect them, we need to have high visibility policing and we need rapid response units" Stevenson said.
