An Eastern Cape policeman will appear in court on Friday in connection with an armed robbery in Mdantsane on Sunday.
Police said the warrant officer and an accomplice were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly robbing two people of their cellphones.
Provincial police spokesperson, Major Ernest Sigobe, says the policeman was off duty and in civilian clothes but had been driving an unmarked state vehicle.
He and his accomplice face charges of armed robbery, common robbery and using a state vehicle without permission.
Sigobe says they are also appealing to any possible witnesses to the robbery to contact Mdantsane detectives.
