The Democratic Alliance in Nelson Mandela Bay is uppping the political ante on the municipality.
DA caucus leader, Leon de Villiers, has given notice of a motion of no-confidence in executive mayor, Zanoxolo Wayile.
The motion is expected to be on the agenda for the last Council meeting next Thursday.
De Villiers alleges that Wayile is failing the Metro and its people, with service delivery at an all time low as a result of mismanagment and poor leadership.
The motion notes that; tThe Mayor has failed to appoint a permanent municipal manager since July 2009; he is not making “meaningful pro-gress” with the appointment of per-manent executive directors; and he is seeking to reduce the current “under-funded operating budget by R10 million to fund the hosting of AFCON when basic services cannot be sustained because of budget constraints
On Thursday De Villiers laid criminal charges against axed acting municipal manager, Themba Hani, in terms of Section 173 of the Municipal Finance Management Act.
This section deals with financial misconduct and the onus on accounting officers to combat corruption and implement supply chain management policies.
He says "Hani had a duty to act in the best interests of the municipality and to take all reasonable steps to prevent corrupt practices."
