The main opposition Democratic Alliance will on Sunday elect an interim party leader and interim federal chairperson to lead it up to its congress in 2020.
This follows the tumultuous resignation of DA leader Mmusi Maimane and federal chairman Atholl Trollip last month.
The DA's new parliamentary leader John Steenhuisen and Makashule Gana, a member of the provincial legislature in Gauteng, are contesting the interim party leadership.
It became a two-horse race after the party's Western Cape leader Bonginkosi Madikizela pulled out earlier this week.
The party said the meeting of the federal council to decide the new leadership would be held behind closed doors.
It was plunged into a crisis after both Maimane and the DA's Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba resigned and questioned the party's continued commitment to building an inclusive, non-racial society.
Their departure followed former DA leader Helen Zille's return to the party as chairwoman of the federal council.
