The Democratic Alliance in the Eastern Cape has lashed out at local government MEC Mlibo Qoboshiyane for what it terms a scandalous misuse of taxpayers’ money.
This follows a meeting held by Qoboshiyane last month to caution all ANC councilors to stop infighting and speed up service delivery in municipalities.
DA leader in the legislature, Bobby Stevenson, says Qoboshiyane must explain to the Legislature how much this exercise cost municipalities and the department and why it should not be deemed illegal expenditure.
Qoboshiyane has, however, dismissed the DA's allegations, saying the workshop was called to engage councillors on the enormous challenges facing municipalities.
He said the meeting was attended by councillors from municipalities led by the ANC and was aimed at improving service delivery.
