DA parliamentary leader, Lindiwe Mazibuko, has embarked on a long walk outside Queenstown Friday morning, in solidarity with Eastern Cape children who must walk long distances to school every day.
She is being accompanied by DA national spokesperson, Musi Maimane, MP Annette Lovemore and Bhisho MPL, Edmund van Vuuren.
Mazibuko says there are children in the area who walk up to 20km to and from school every day, due to the flawed school transport system.
She says for her as an adult, it is an arduous walk, something children must undertake every day...
"For me as an adult this is an arduous walk and it is extraordinary that these children have to embark on this walk on a daily basis with no access to transportation simply because the department of education hasn't been able to do its job and provide the resources necessary to help these kids to get to school" Mazibuko said
Mazibuko wants to experience what daily life is for these children and challenge the MEC for education in the province to do exactly the same so that he can see for himself what the consequences are of failed service delivery in the Eastern Cape education department.
