DA outraged over Makana Administrator's exorbitant salary

The Democratic Alliance says it is outraged to learn that the Administrator of the Makana Municipality, Pam Yako, is earning an exorbitant R327-thousand per month, while working only 3 days per week.

DA-MP, Andrew Whitfield says the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs has revealed that Yako is the highest paid administrator in the country - earning more than double the monthly salary of any other administrator in South Africa.

He says this shocking revelation by the Minister in Parliament is just one more example in an endless list of civil servants leeching off the public purse at the expense of hard working South African citizens who deserve so much better.

According to the Minister the next highest paid administrator earns R135,000.

Whitfield says numerous sources have confirmed to him that Ms Yako is currently working only 3 days a week in Makana, while flying in and out of the Province from Johannesburg at the beginning and end of every week.

He says he has also learned that Ms Yako's contract has not yet been tabled before Council, despite having been appointed by the MEC from 1 October.

Whitfield says he will be writing to MEC Xasa to ask precisely how he determined that R327,888.00 was a reasonable and acceptable monthly salary for an administrator and whether he agreed that Ms Yako only had to work 3 days a week.
