he official opposition in Nelson Mandela Bay says the proposed temporary take-over of Council by Bhisho will not stop the rot.
Eastern Cape Local Government MEC, Mlibo Qoboshiyane, reportedly told The Herald that national government has ordered that the municipality be placed under administration for the next six months.
DA caucus leader, Leon de Villiers, told Algoa FM News that the advantages of any take-over will be minimal.
"The underlying problem in this council is the lack of unity in the ruling party's ranks and for as long as the MEC is going to precede on the lines that he is proposing by not dissolving council it's not going to solve the problem, because you are still going to have the lack of unity at council meetings and the ongoing infighting in the ruling party, which has destabilised the council over the last few years" de Villiers said.
