The ANC in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality says it's still calling on small parties to join them in fighting the DA-led government.
Members of the ANC addressed the media on Thursday after the party was a no show at the first the council meeting.
Leader of the ANC, Bicks Ndoni said DA has been disregarding poor people in the metro by implementing the Credit Control Policy and the Assistance To the Poor policy.
Ndoni said the ANC's councillors was on ground in townships collecting data from poor residences who have had their electricity and water cut off despite the fact that they had no income.
He said there's been a reluctance by the DA to give a clear indication on what it wants to do with the township areas. He said the efforts being made are cosmetic.
Ndoni said tensions have been mounting around issues related to how the Metro is dealing with poor communities.
"Nothing significant has been done to address challenges and problems within our townships and we've seen no plan addressing that," Ndoni said.
Nelson Mandela Bay Metro Executive Mayor Athol Trollip says the DA-led coalition government in the city remains committed to taking the Metro forward.
A special council meeting was postponed amid a call by Local Government MEC, Fikile Xasa, to withdraw Johann Mettler's appointment as municipal manager.
Trollip said the situation was serious as there were two important compliance issue items that needed to be tabled today, namely the 2015/16 Annual Report and the 2016/17 Mid-term report.
Trollip said he expected the ANC to try and take advantage of the situation but that any suggestions that the coalition had collapsed were wishful thinking on the ANC's part.
The UDM in Nelson Mandela Bay says the coalition with the DA is still intact in spite of differences about the appointment of Municipal Manager, Johann Mettler.
A special council meeting was postponed on Thursday amid a call by Local Government MEC, Fikile Xasa, to withdraw Mettler's appointment.
The UDM's Mongameli Bobani, who is also deputy mayor of the Metro, told reporters that he agreed with MEC Xasa that proper procedures had not been followed.
Bobani said that he had raised this and another compliance issues with Executive Mayor Athol Trollip.
Yet, these issue had not been withdrawn from the meeting agenda despite appeals by UDM leader, Bantu Holomisa to the DA's top leadership.
Bobani said he does not believe there are cracks in the coalition.
"I won't say this is the first crack of the coalition, it's the differences of opinion, which is actually in the coalition agreement"
He said the coalition is still in tact and he is still the Deputy Mayor.
