A skull and bones, presumably human, have been found in the Pinnacle Point caves at Mossel Bay.
The site is being excavated by professor Curtis Marean and his team of archaeologists.
According to the Mossel Bay Advertiser, the skull was found in a pit dug in the sand.
Last June, police in KwaNonqaba opened an inquest docket after human bones, a tibia and fibula, were found at the back of the same cave.
At that time, the bones showed no signs of calcification and it was speculated that they may not have been very old.
Police say the skull and bones will be sent to the University of Cape Town for radiocarbon dating.
