DA leaders lashes Zuma over Nkandla

By Zizi Hlungulu

DA leader Helen Zille used an election rally in East London to take another swipe at president Jacob Zuma over his involvement in the Nkandla scandal.
Speaking to hundreds of supporters in Phumlani, outside East London, Zille said Nkandla was clear proof why Zuma and the ANC should be voted out of power.

"How do you explain the use of R246 million on one man? Where did that money come from? That money was meant for service delivery, but it was taken from you to build one person's holiday home," said Zille.

She said Zuma couldn't possibly deny knowing that extra money was being spent on the upgrades at Nkandla.

"The bottom line is that the Public Protector says he received undue benefit to his property and he should pay it back. Zuma is not above the law," added Zille.

Accompanied on stage by provincial DA leadership, including Athol Trollip, Nosimo Balindlela and Veliswa Mvenya, Zille said she is quite confident that the party's support system is growing in a province which she said was formally an ANC stronghold.

"We're making progress all over South Africa, and the Eastern Cape is rapidly becoming a blue country .We're growing in this province and in some communities," said Zille.
She said the "blue people of the province" are opting for good governance and that the DA wouldn't disappoint the people.
Phumlani resident Yandiswa Nadophi said she has faith in the DA, and strongly believes that if the party wins the elections it will bring great change to her community.

"I have been living in a squatter camp for 16 years, under unbearable living conditions. I decided to join the DA because I want to see change," said Nadophi.
Eastern Cape ANC provincial secretary Oscar Mabuyane said the DA shouldn't be taken seriously, and that the party's support was diminishing.

"Zille doesn't know anything about good governance. Instead she is pushing a liberal agenda which is taking the country on a detour," said Mabuyane.
