The Democratic Alliance said that the Nelson Mandela Bay coalition government has forgotten about the communities in Port Elizabeth's Northern Areas, Uitenhage, and Kwanobuhle.
DA councillor Retief Odendaal said that R100m of the adjustment budget has been redirected to other areas.
In a statement following a meeting of the City’s Budget and Treasury Committee on Wednesday, Odendaal said that more than R50m budgeted for 11 wards in the Northern Areas, will now be redirected to other wards and projects.
He said more than R21m “has also disappeared from the combined wards of Uitenhage and Kwanobuhle”.
“This, however, does not paint the full dark picture for the residents of Uitenhage and Kwanobuhle, as R41m of the R50m that was replaced, will be spent on one IPTS project.”
“This entails that a total of R62 million in service delivery related budget was cut from these ward based budgets,” Odendaal said.
The 2018/2019 adjustments budget is expected to be tabled at a council meeting on Thursday where a motion of exigency for the removal of mayor Mongameli Bobani, will also be tabled.
