DA goes to SAHRC over bucket toilet system

The DA has lodged a complaint with the SA Human Rights Commission regarding the increased use of the bucket toilet
system in three provinces.

The DA's Kevin Mileham says the basis of their complaint is the increase in the number of bucket toilets in the Eastern Cape, North West and KwaZulu-Natal.

According to Mileham, the worst offender was the Eastern Cape, where the number of households using the system increased from 38 606 to 52 732 in one
year between June 2012 and 2013.

The information was contained in a Statistics SA report released at the end of August.

The DA hopes the SA Human Rights Commission will be able to produce a report on the matter in the new year.
