DA calls for parliamentary briefing to clear air on FIFA debacle

The DA says apparent tensions between former and current Safa presidents, Molefi Oliphant and Danny Jordaan is proof that a parliamentary briefing is needed to clear the air on the FIFA payment debacle.

DA MP, Solly Malatsi, says he's already written to the chairperson of Parliament's porfolio committee on Sport, Arts and Culture, to call for such a briefing.

Malatsi was reacting to reports in which Oliphant claimed that Jordaan had allegedly betrayed him by failing to disclose the existence of the 2007 letter Jordaan wrote to FIFA, requesting that payments be made to the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association of Football .

Government has consistently claimed that a payment of $10 million US to Concacaf was not a bribe, but a contribution to a Diaspora Legacy Programme.

Malatsi says Government ought to be operating in a unified manner in order to furnish the nation with the answers it deserves.

This, after he claimed that Jordaan had the opportunity to disclose his letter to FIFA when SAFA officials met face to face on two separate occasions last week.
