The Democratic Alliance in the Eastern Cape says a 77-year-old pedestrian killed in Mount Frere, was run down by a car escorting Eastern Cape rural development MEC, Zoleka Capa.
The party's leader in the province, Athol Trollip, says it is alleged that the MEC's Audi Q7 collided with Nomvume Dabula in the Mount Frere CBD on Wednesday.
Trollip says the car was part of Capa's "blue light bullies" and that Dabula's family contacted the DA to ensure the matter was not covered up.
Mount Frere police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Cynthia Nkamba confirmed that a culpable homicide docket was opened.
She could not provide further details.
Capa's spokesman Ayabulela Ngoqo said he would comment on the DA's allegations at a later stage.
Trollip said the DA would table parliamentary questions about the incident.
