Police in East London is looking for a suspect who robbed a security guard of his rifle at the Post Office in Amalinda on Wednesday.
Police Spokesperson Captain Mluleki Mbi says the man, who is believed to be in his mid-twenties, pretended to be a customer and was standing in a queue with other clients.
He says the man suddenly pulled out his pistol and demanded the security guard, who was on duty at the time, to hand over his rifle.
The suspect ran away and members of the K9 unit immediately launched a search in the surrounding areas.
Mbi says police eventually spotted the fleeing suspect who threw his pistol to the ground and disappeared into the bushes.
The suspect, who was described by police as a dangerous criminal, still has the stolen rifle in his possession.
Police are investigating a case of armed robbery.
