Buffalo City residents have been urged to use water sparingly as Stage 3 water restrictions and punitive measures are seemingly falling on deaf ears.
Municipal spokesperson Samkelo Ngwenya says the latest available data on dam levels shows that the Metro's main reserve dam, Wriggleswade Dam, is currently sitting below 18% while the Briddledrift dam, supplying East London and Mdantsane was recorded to be below 23 percent.
He says the water demand is steadily increasing and the dam levels are continuing to decline to critical levels.
Ngwenya says weather forecasts are not predicting an upcoming rainy season and as such the strenuous situation is expected to worsen.
Residents are reminded that the Municipality is in a drought situation and that water restrictions are being implemented with punitive tariffs.
BCM says it is important for residents to understand the implications of the water crisis which are financial, social and severe.
