The crisis within Cricket South Africa deepened today when Standard Bank informed CSA that it would not be renewing its agreement as the title sponsor of the Protea's men's team when it concludes on the 30th of Apri next year.
Standard Bank Group Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, Thulani Sibeko, said the decision not to renew the sponsorship agreement was not taken lightly.
He said, however, that in light of recent developments at CSA, which are a culmination of long-standing problems which have damaged Standard Bank's reputation, it had decided not to renew its partnership with Cricket South Africa.
The Standard Bank decision comes barely a day after CSA board chairperson Iqbal Khan resigned - saying he could no longer be part of an organisation that was fast ruining the game.
Just hours after Khan resigned, the Willowton Group, manufacturers of Sunfoil Cooking Oil, wrote an open letter to CSA expressing its grave concern over the state of affairs that have transpired within Cricket South Africa in recent months.
It called CSA to immediate order and for the "decision making" individuals within the organisation to strongly consider whether they are best suited to their positions.
The crisis was sparked by CSA's decision earlier this month to revoke the accreditations of five journalists covering the Mzansi Super League.
These were later reinstated after a huge public uproar.
The Board of Directors of Cricket South Africa also announced on Friday that they'd taken the decision to put CEO Thabang Moroe on precautionary suspension with pay, effective immediately, on allegations of misconduct, pending further investigations.
