Cradock police opened an inquest docket, after a woman was hit by a train at the Mollenhof farm railway crossing at Mortimer.
Spokesperson, Captain Stefanie Smith says the incident took place at around 11 o'clock on Friday evening..
She says it is alleged that 57-year old Christine Nell was drinking with other farm workers on the farm, and later decided to go home.
Smith says on the way to her house, she allegedly passed out next to the railway line, and when the train crossed the intersection, she was hit.
Nell died at the scene.
