Three suspects, aged between 36 and 41, are expected to appear in the Cradock Magistrate's Court soon after they were found in possession of an undisclosed amount of money.
Police spokesperson, Captain Lariane Jonker says members of the K9 unit were patrolling the N10 between Cradock and Middelburg on Thursday when they came across a motor vehicle in a field next to the road.
She says one of the occupants experienced serious discomfort and the emergency services were contacted.
Officials then noticed that the suspects were nervous and did not want to remove their backpacks even while being medically examined by ambulance personnel.
Captain Jonker says their backpacks were searched and bundles of banknotes were found.
Police also found some money which was concealed inside the lining of a jacket.
The suspects were arrested at the scene.
