The Western Cape Government Health Department in the Garden Route is experiencing a marked increase in Covid-19 numbers across the district.
Department spokesperson Nadia Ferreira says the total number of positive patients for the district is 12 289 in comparison with a week earlier of 11 466.
This is an increase of 823 positive patients, which Ferreira says is extremely concerning.
Department of Health Cluster Leader, Dr Terence Marshall, says there has been a 237 % district increase in cases over the last seven days.
George has seen a massive percentage jump of positive Covid-19 cases and is 224% up on the number of positive cases of a week ago.
The city currently has 464 active Covid-19 cases.
Mossel Bay reported 38 positive cases in the previous fortnight but jumped to 145 positive cases in the past week.
Knysna also recorded a massive 287% increase in numbers from 60 cases to 172 in the past seven days.
