The Mossel Bay Municipality has warned residents against a careless attitude towards the COVID-19 pandemic and preventive measures.
Municipal manager, Thys Giliomee says in a statement that a "second wave" should not be disregarded.
He says there are already signs in Mossel Bay that the infection rate is rising again.
Giliomee says the number of positive cases systematically decreased since the 20th of September but a sharp turnaround was seen with the new number of active cases reported this week.
He says in just four days, 21 more cases were recorded, bringing the total number of positive cases from 39 to 63 by the 5th of October.
Meanwhile, the Acting Mayor for Nelson Mandela Bay (NMB), Thsonono Buyeye also expressed his concern after four people died from Covid-19 in just one day in the Metro.
He appealed to residents to do everything they can to avoid a second wave.
Of the four recorded deaths on Monday, three were from the public hospitals and one from a private hospital.
The Eastern Cape Department of Health said in just 24-hours there were 17 new cases, with Motherwell still the hotspot in NMBM, followed by KwaNobuhle and Zwide.
In the past seven days, 157 new cases were recorded across the City.
On Tuesday, over a thousand new cases were recorded in the country and the national death toll is standing at 17 103.
The head of Disaster Management for NMBM Shane Brown says their biggest concern is that residents are carrying on with their lives as if there is no more Covid.
