The Executive Mayor of Buffalo City, Councillor Xola Pakati, has gone into self-isolation after coming into contact with a councillor who had tested positive for COVID-19.
The Mayor’s spokesperson, Luzuko Buku, says contact tracing will be undertaken on everyone who had contact with the councillor.
He says Mayor Pakati will undergo testing on Tuesday and will continue performing his duties while waiting for his results.
He added that as from Tuesday, the East London City Hall will be closed to allow for urgent sanitizing and deep cleaning of the building.
