A 59-year-old man from New Brighton in Port Elizabeth has been arrested following a twist of fate which resulted in the confiscation of mandrax tablets with a street value of R300 000.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, says members of the Public Order Policing were assisting the Sheriff’s office with an eviction in Soncenywa Street at around 9 am.
She says as they were carrying a headboard out of the house a packet containing mandrax tablets fell out of it.
The entire focus of the operation was then shifted, and members searched the house before coming across more than 4 500 tablets.
Naidu says the man was arrested and is expected to appear in the New Brighton Magistrates’ court soon.
