A courier delivery van driver is in a critical condition after he was shot during a hijacking on the N2 near Richards Bay on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast on Friday.
A Spokesperson for Netcare 911 Shawn Herbst says a paramedic team responded shortly before 8 am to a shooting on the N2 near the Mtunzini Toll Plaza.
He says reports from the scene indicate that a man, who works for a courier company, was driving his bakkie when he was shot in the right shoulder by hijackers.
The suspects then threw the victim out of the vehicle under a bridge in Mtunzini.
Herbst says a helicopter was called to the scene to airlift the patient to a hospital, due to the nature of his injuries.
The matter will now be investigated by SAPS
