Police in Mooiplaas in the Eastern Cape are investigating a murder and suicide case after a 40-year-old man allegedly shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself at the weekend.
Spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, said the man fetched his wife at a homestead on Saturday where they were preparing to bury her mother at the Bola Locality outside East London.
He said the deceased's' sister became worried when the couple did not return and went to check on them at their homestead in the same village at about 8 am on Sunday.
After knocking several times and getting no response, she called for the community who forced open the door.
Manatha said the couple were both found with gunshot wounds to their upper bodies. The firearm was also at the scene.
They were the 40-year-old Sithobile Velebhayi and his 40-year-old wife, Nolukholo.
