Two people were killed in the early hours of Saturday morning after their informal home in the Moeggesukkel informal settlement in Kamesh caught fire.
Police Spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart says a 55-year-old man and his 45-year-old wife allegedly made a fire inside a steel bucket before going to bed.
Neighbours tried to douse the fire but the intensity of the flames engulfed two homes. The couple is believed to have died in this blaze.
Swart says at this stage their names cannot be released until their identities are confirmed.
Police have opened an inquest docket.
