Councillor Bongo Nombiba reports for his first day in prison

ANC Nelson Mandela Bay councillor, Bongo Nombiba, will begin serving his five-year jail sentence for fraud and money laundering.

This was confirmed on Monday morning by the Hawks in the Eastern Cape.

Nombiba lost his last bid to stay out of jail when the Constitutional Court last month turned down his application for leave to appeal his conviction and an effective five-year jail sentence.

The Ward 20 councillor was found guilty last March of fraud and money-laundering for pocketing R20 000 meant for a community project.
