Cosatu members in Port Elizabeth took to the streets today to protest against the redeployment of executive Mayor Zanaxolo Wayile and his Deputy Nancy Sihlwayi.
Supported by members from the South African Miners Union and the Young Communist league, over 300 protesters marched from New Brighton to Standard House in Govan Mbeki avenue to hand over a memorandum of demands.
Cosatu local secretary, Andile Bloko, said Cosatu was calling for the immediate disbandment of the Regional Executive Council.
Bloko said Cosatu had nothing against the newly appointed Mayor, 81-year old Ben Fihle, but that he was being used.
