The East London Regional Court heard during sentencing proceedings on Tuesday that Retha Voogt is a suitable candidate for correctional supervision.
The 47-year-old former Personal Assistant pleaded guilty in November last year to 52 counts of theft and money laundering involving more than R11 million.
She admitted to stealing the money from her employer, the Moore Stephens Auditing firm and PSG Consult in East London, over some time from 2013 onwards.
She stated, however, that she’d gambled all the money away and had nothing to show for it.
During Tuesday's proceedings, the probation officer presented her report to the court and submitted that correctional supervision is an option for the court to consider.
The Correctional Services officer who compiled her pre-sentencing report was ill but is expected to present her report on Wednesday.
The State is seeking a minimum 15-year jail sentence for Voogt.
