Two people have drowned at Maitland's beach in Nelson Mandela Bay.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, says the men, believed to be in their thirties, were employees from a local racecourse and were having lunch at the beach before the incident occurred.
It is believed that one of them decided to go swimming when his colleague noticed that he was in trouble.
She says he attempted to assist his co-worker but was also pulled out to sea by a rip current.
Janse van Rensburg says their identities will be released once the next of kin’s have been informed.
