The Department of Correctional Services says it will be beefing up security at St Albans prison outside Port Elizabeth.
This follows this week's stabbing of a warder and the recent mass gang brawl which left three prisoners dead.
Correctional Services Commissioner, Nkosinathi Breakfast, says the warder is recovering from his ordeal and is also receiving counselling.
He says the probe into the fight that broke out on the 18th of January in Medium A awaiting trial centre is still continuing.
Three inmates were killed and more than 60 injured in the incident.
"We have not received a report from the police and in terms of an internal investigation the team is also trying to finalise the process. We hope that by the 15th of February the internal investigation will be finalised" Breakfast said.
