The Mnquma Council in Butterworth has been given several days to respond to Local Government MEC' Mlibo Qoboshiyane's intention to invoke section 139 b of the Constitution to restore stability to the municipality.
It was earlier incorrectly reported that Qoboshiyane had officially taken over the Municipality.
The department's superintendent-general Stanley Khanyile delivered the MEC's decision to the Mnquma Council for a response on Thursday.
Khanyile's spokesperson, Mamkeli Ngam.
"The municipality has been given 3 working days to respond, either to oppose or support the MEC's intention to that regard. This is an intervention only to ensure that there is stability in the municipality to focus on service delivery" Ngam said.
