An East London policeman was due to appear in the cities Magistrates Court on Monday, in connection with the murder of champion boxer, Leighandre' - Baby Lee - Jegels.
She was shot dead on Friday, allegedly by her boyfriend who is also a member of the Tactical Reaction Unit.
Jegels' mother was also critically wounded in the attack.
The accused, who fled East London, was involved in an accident near Peddie in which fatalities were reported.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate is probing the case.
Police Spokesperson Captain Hazel Mqala says the suspect is still being treated in a hospital for injuries he sustained during the accident and can therefore not appear in court on Monday.
The Chairperson of Boxing South Africa Malefetsane Peter Ngatane says Jegels, who was the WBA Pan African Junior Bantamweight Champion was one of the most accomplished female boxers.
He says she took a break from boxing and was scheduled to make a comeback on the 5th of October.
It is alleged that Jegels had a restraining order against the accused.
